How long is a world cup game?

As a huge soccer fan, I've always been curious about how long a World Cup game actually lasts. Typically, a match consists of two 45-minute halves with a 15-minute halftime break, adding up to a total of 90 minutes of playtime. However, if the game ends in a draw during the knockout stages, there will be an additional 30 minutes of extra time, split into two 15-minute halves. In case the teams are still tied after extra time, a penalty shootout determines the winner. So, a World Cup game can last anywhere between 90 minutes to roughly 120 minutes, excluding the time taken for penalty shootouts.

What happens when one scores an own goal?

An own goal is when a player scores a goal in their own team's net, and it is counted for the opposing team. It can be due to misjudging the ball, a mistake with a pass, or even a desperate attempt to stop an opposition player. Own goals can have a major impact on the game, as it can cost the team a point or even the entire match. They can also be incredibly embarrassing for the player who scored it, as they are usually remembered more than any other goal they may have scored during their career. However, it is a part of the game and can teach players to be more aware, so they do not make the same mistake twice.
